FNSS are go.
Round 1 was fast and furious with some close racing to the wire in the Senior
and Vets classes.
Nobody got near Matt Barrett after his rocket of a
start, but a chasing pack kept him in sight all race. In a sprint finish
Plumz's Lloyd Bettles grabbed 2nd from Scott Rose / SIS and Adi Scott with Phil
Hughes following in.
In The Vets Jack and Garry Hill / CATS fought out
the lead for a few laps before lap 1 crasher Keith Sperry caught and passed
them to take the win. Gary stormed past JP for 2nd at the end of the last
lap.
Juniors saw Nicholas Jones head home our own Numplumzs Ian
Whatling.

Lloyds
view from the sharp end of the seniors.
Seeing the usual
suspects while changing and warming up I knew it was going to be a hard fast
race and I wasn't wrong. It was also clear on this years form that nobody was
going to catch or keep up with Matt Barrett.
The start line was in its
usual mess but it found a way to organise by the first corner Rob Lee got off
too his usual flying start with a few others for company ,my start was OK
,following and not too far behind. Half way round the first lap I was
latched on to the back of the leading riders and feeling very comfortable, the
pace was pretty quick and we all took turns on the front testing each other
out, Matt had escaped but was not getting too far away, we could see him all
the time. On about lap three I was sitting in nicely behind Rob when Adi
decided to give it ago catching me out , Rob didn't respond so I took off after
Adi who had I slight gap but on the next climb I closed up pretty easily ,Scott
Rose slowly clawed his way back over to us along with Phil but we had shook off
Rob. The longer the race went on the stronger felt but I didn't feel confident
enough to go away on my own so I decided to stay put and battle it out where I
was .The climbs seemed to go real good for me I was able to easily get to the
front and pull away with only Scott giving me any worry ,so I planned to get to
the front just before the last hill and lead the race out from there, but I
nearly ballsed it all up when I tried to take Adi on the inside just before the
bridge, there just wasn't the room and it was a bad mistake and I took us both
down ,luckily it was at slow speed and we were able to carry on with nobody
coming past us ,and I had the lead . I knew Adi was finding the last climb hard
so I just dug in and sprinted to the top by the time we were at the play area I
knew it was in the BAG Good fast race and it was the first time I was able to
actually think about tactics rather than just chasing as hard as I can, if only
Matt Barrett............................?
Jacks view from the
Vets.
Let's get this straight, I never look forward to Pitsford, I'm
always crap here and its strength sapping even when dry. So off we romp and I
let them all go. The fast descent on the grassy curve is fun and heck I even
seem to climb OK. Dave Palmer comes past me a full speed looking really good
this year and then I notice Garry (Hill) ahead. Totally by surprise I reel him
in, surprised because he kicked my ass at the first NPS round, it then becomes
clear that I've just taken the lead.
Oh crap, the fun bit goes out the
window as red mist takes over, I lead after 2 laps but not for long. Keith
Sperry soon passes us after a start line crash has held him up. But he dosen't
fly away which keeps us trying hard. Garry goes back ahead for a while but then
seems to struggle as I pull away for about 20 seconds at the last lap shout.
Although I tried and put in another consistent lap time Garry had saved
something and shot past for an easy 2nd. So its all ready for you to pounce
next week Ron. |
