Rob the Short track King |
The evenings
entertainment started with a little fun Short-Track racing. 2005 Champ
Smiffy came out of retirement to win Heat 1 from Graham Dickens, at 20 seconds
a blast it was short and fast.
Heat 2 saw Rob Sauter cream the field to
take the win from Nige Scott, while heat 3 finally saw Stu Knubbley make it
along with a great piece of skill from Youth Ashley Wilson.
So the Big
Final and it was all over in 5 pedal Strokes, Rob Sauter flew off the line and
had a bikes length lead almost immediately, and held it to the line to take the
pair of tyres prize. |

Lloyd about to lose air ! |

Nige flying to third. |
A
smaller field than any other round this year gave those that faced the 1.75
mile circuit a chance to grab some good points for their series
aspirations. Lloyd Bettles took the early lead and was first rider to the
jump, where disaster hit. Landing on the side of a tubeless tyre saw a lot of
air escape and some very early problems.
Four riders then started to
pull away, Keith Sperry, Paul Robertson, Phil Hughes and Nigel Scott kept
swapping places for a lap untill Paul put the squeeze on for lap 2 and pulled
out a 30 second lead. Chasing hard were Junior Lewis Harris and Ron
Rutgers.
Robertson held the lead comfortably to the flag with some
super consistent lap times of 10:09 - 10:03 - 10:17 - and 9:51 to win from
Phil Hughes who pulled away for second 34 seconds down on Paul. Keith Sperry
took the Vets win all the way, Nige Scott chased him in for 3rd Senior, while
Ron was untroubled for 2nd Vet, a result that now gives him 3rd overall for
sure. Adrian Elson was 3rd.
Lloyd pulled back up to 4th by lap 4 but
then failed to finish his 5th lap so Ben Spiers Inherited 4th. Stu Knubley
Held off Dave Palmer for a superb 5th which closes up the battle for 6th
overall, Graham Dickens was a big loser on the night too as he punctured after
1/2 a lap before resuming chase.
Lewis Harris and Ashley Wilson took
start to finish wins for the young uns while Nadine Spearing was the sole women
brave enough to face the hills. |

2nd win this year for Paul - "Rookie of the
year" for sure. |
