We invite you to the 1st Rocko Roller Cycle sportive. Two routes are available; the full 160Km Big Dipper with 2320m climbing and the shorter MouseTrap at 78Km with 1222m climbing. Both routes follow the same first 50Km. This is not a race but a timed participation following a set road route. Don’t be fooled by our central location and lack of mountains, these are tough routes that will test most riders. We have put together all the best parts of our club rides to form what we think is a superb roller coaster of a route. Short sharp climbs, several short kickers around 20%, flow with some superb descents on quiet lanes, we think you’ll enjoy the testing descents as much as the climbs. Major climbs; The Holt (5km), Stoke Dry (22km), the Roller (30km onwards), Foxton (80km) , Laughton Legbreaker (90km), Farndon hill (100km), and Heart attack hill (125km) ( yes one of our club mates ticker failed here; he’s ok now though ) await you before one final lungburster at 157Km which is shared by both routes. You’ll pass through quiet country estates, and past four of our local reservoirs on some scenic routes. Easy access from the A14/M1/A1 to the start location of our very own cycling clubhouse, with canteen, showers and changing facilities. When your finished how about a tea around a roaring log fire, if the weather requires, we like to promote a good after-ride social scene to complete your day. RFW have run national standard road races for years so you can be sure of a warm welcome and great organisation. Come help us set some good time standards or just enjoy the ride and secure the future of this event. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of our clubhouse. (Roaring Log fire if required) The Big Dipper will start at 08:00am and the MouseTrap at 09:00am All Finishers will get a certificate of completion and for the Big Dipper these will indicate the standard achieved either Gold, Silver or Bronze, required timings will be announced soon. Full Results will be posted here in rider name order - Remember this event is a personal challenge and not a race. For fun we intend to have a Team award. This will be slightly unsuall in that it goes to the team that completes the event in the largest combined team time. This will be the number of riders multiplied by the time taken for either of the two distances, (Max time given per rider will be 8Hrs per rider in the Big Dipper and 5 Hours in the MouseTrap) So the more riders you have in your team the more chance you have of winning this Team award. Entry Details: NOTE: The minimum age for the Big Dipper is 18 yrs, and all riders for the shorter route must be 16 or over. All riders must wear a helmet due to Insurance regulations.
